At Honiley Hall, maintaining a clean, beautifully presented home is a key part of daily life. As our housekeeper, you'll be responsible for ensuring rooms are dusted, vacuumed, polished, and cared for to an exceptional standard. Given the scale of the property, not all rooms are attended to during each shift. However, long-established routines are in place to ensure that every area is covered thoroughly and consistently across the week.
You will work with professional-grade equipment and products, always selecting the right tools for the task—particularly when dealing with fine furnishings, delicate surfaces, and antique finishes. Attention to detail is essential, whether it's aligning picture frames precisely, maintaining spotless floors, or ensuring windows are clear to make the most of the garden views.
Those who adapt quickly to our established systems will find that tasks become second nature as the hours and shifts progress. The structure is there to support you, and consistency in following it ensures the home stays at its best with minimal stress.
We're looking for someone with quiet initiative—someone who spots what needs doing and takes care of it without waiting to be asked. Pride in presentation, good judgement, and a proactive mindset are all essential.
You'll ensure all bedrooms are clean and welcoming, with beds made neatly using appropriate techniques for different bed sizes. Regular changing linens, properly arranged pillows, and attention to detail are important parts of this role.
Bathroom cleaning includes thoroughly cleaning all fixtures, restocking supplies, and arranging towels neatly. You'll maintain multiple bathrooms to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, ensuring they're fresh and inviting for daily use.
This role suits someone who understands that bedrooms and bathrooms should always feel clean, comfortable, and well-cared for. Your work helps create a pleasant living environment throughout the home.
Laundry and fabric care forms part of the daily and weekly household routines, carried out in a dedicated laundry room. This includes managing regular washing cycles alongside occasional special tasks such as stain removal or treating delicate fabrics. You should be confident in identifying different fabric care requirements and using the correct machine settings and products to ensure all items are handled appropriately.
Typical laundry includes bed linens, towels, table linens, and personal garments, all of which must be cleaned, dried, and ironed to a high standard. Experience with delicate materials and professional ironing techniques is highly valued.
Equally important is the proper folding, storage, and organisation of clean laundry to maintain order and support the smooth running of the household.
Winston and Churchill, our two Airedale Terriers, are members of the household. While not responsible for their primary care, you'll interact with them daily and should be comfortable around large, energetic, and affectionate dogs.
This may include letting them in and out of their kennels, ensuring their water bowls are fresh, and maintaining cleanliness in areas they frequent. Their muddy paws after garden adventures are part of the charm, and we need someone who embraces this aspect of country house living!
A genuine love for dogs is essential. They're excellent judges of character and will quickly become your loyal friends.
While you won't be expected to interact with guests, Honiley Hall is both a private home and a place of work. From time to time, business visitors, friends, or family members may be on-site. You'll need to be comfortable working quietly in the background and recognising when to remain discreet. Above all, the role requires absolute confidentiality regarding anything you may see or hear during your time at Honiley Hall. Discretion, trust, and reliability are essential.
Maintaining the fireplaces at Honiley Hall is both a practical task and an art form. You'll be responsible for cleaning out ashes, maintaining the grates, and ensuring the hearth area is spotless and ready for use.
Laying fires properly is a traditional skill we'll teach if needed - creating the perfect arrangement of kindling and logs for both efficiency and aesthetics. There's something special about a well-laid fire ready to bring warmth and atmosphere to the home.
